SMANP-CE strategic plan focuses on creating a guiding tool for a better conservation of the natural heritage of the Metropolitan District of Quito
Through the city Ordinance 213, the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito promotes the creation of the Metropolitan Subsystem of Natural Protected Areas and Ecological Corridors (SMANP-CE).
The objective is to ensure the conservation of the natural heritage of the Metropolitan District of Quito which is threated by different circumstances related to the urban, agricultural and industrial development.
The diversity of problems and challenges of the environmental management in the Metropolitan District, which has 17 different ecosystems; requires the availability of a strategic planning tool to guide it and that allows building a practical and functional district conservation system.
As complements we have worked on identifying possible financing mechanisms in order to optimize and sustained the use of resources. On the other hand, guiding instruments were also proposed, to structure a basic indicators system so we can evaluate the progress of the plan.
